Jeff Falkingham was born and raised in Browns Valley, Minnesota, and received a well-rounded education in the public school system, where he played football and baseball, and trumpet in the school band. He was a charter member of the Browns Valley Centennial Band, and long-time manager of Butch’s Buzzards softball team.
Jeff’s first-grade teacher, Lillian Korsbrek, first got him interested in the story of his hometown’s founding family. She was the daughter of Sam Brown, Jr. (“Little Guy” in Jeff’s book), and the namesake of Sam’s younger sister (“baby Lillian” in the book). While Mrs. Korsbrek sparked an interest in historical fiction, it was Jeff’s second-grade teacher, Nita Duffield, who first inspired him to become a writer.
Jeff has a B.A. in mass communications from St. Cloud State University, and an M.A. in leadership from Augsburg College. He began his career as a sportswriter. For the past 25 years, he has worked as an editor in corporate communications, marketing and advertising, most recently with Northern Tool + Equipment. Jeff has lived in Eden Prairie since 1983. He and his wife, Bonnie, have a son and a daughter, both currently in college.
Jeff recently finished writing a SEQUEL to "Caper." Titled Sherlock Holmes: In Search of the Source, it takes place in December 1896, ten years after the original. The story finds Holmes returning to Minnesota to attend narrator Petey Smith's wedding. When a member of the bridal party is implicated in a murder, the two old friends must race to solve the mystery before the nuptials can proceed.
The book was released January 6, 2009, the 155th birthday of Sherlock Holmes. Buy it NOW!
