Murder mystery + Minnesota history

Minnesota is in his heart

Jeff Falkingham is a Minnesota history buff and mystery lover who writes for readers of all ages who share those passions. He loves talking with readers about a wide variety of topics, including Minnesota history, Sherlock Holmes mysteries, and the writing and publishing process. His book talks have drawn rave reviews from historical societies, school groups, libraries, and book and social clubs throughout Minnesota and its neighboring states. For a summary of his current presentation, click the BOOK TALKS button on the left.

On the topic of historical fiction, Rudyard Kipling once said that, "If history were told in story form, it would never be forgotten." Jeff says he chooses to write Minnesota history in story form "to get young people, and their families, interested in reading about, talking about, writing about, investigating and remembering  their local and area history." Minnesota is in his roots

Jeff Falkingham was born and raised in Browns Valley, MN, a small town on the South Dakota border, 200 miles west-northwest of the Twin Cities. He has a B.A. in mass communications from St. Cloud (MN) State University and an M.A. in community and organizational leadership from Augsburg College in Minneapolis.

Jeff began his career as a sportswriter. For nearly 30 years, he's worked in marketing communications and advertising with family-owned, Minnesota-based companies. Since 1983, Jeff and his wife Bonita have lived in Eden Prairie, MN, where they raised two children (now both college-educated adults) and a series of golden retrievers.

Minnesota is in his books

Jeff's first book, The County Courthouse Caper, is set in his hometown of Browns Valley, MN. It depicts the lives of Minnesota's pioneer white settlers, and how they interacted with the natives and mixed bloods who were already here. Out of print for five years after the Sept. 2001 First Edition sold out by Christmas 2002, this popular work of historical fiction was reprinted in 2007, and is NOW available in e-Book form! To purchase a paperback copy of the 2007 Edition, contact the author directly (use Contact button at left). For the new eBook version, CLICK HERE NOW!

Jeff's second book, In Search of the Source, is set in St. Paul. Its focus is on Irish, German and Swedish families who came to Minnesota in the late 1800s, and looks at how they got along (or didn't) with their fellow immigrants. First published in 2009, it is currently available in hard cover, paperback and NOW in e-Book form!
